Course Description

This qualification provides the knowledge and skills for graduates to coordinate and maintain the work health and safety (WHS) program in an organisation. It reflects the role of practitioners who apply a substantial knowledge base and well-developed skills in a wide variety of WHS contexts. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Students, currently employed, are encouraged to bring their current employer’s WHS policies and procedures (with their employer’s permission) to use in their course work. This material must be reviewed prior to use by the Institute’s Trainer/Assessor. For students who are unable to bring adequate policies and procedures, the Institute will provide a practice set of documents.

  1. BSBWHS522 – Manage WHS consultation and participation processes
  2. BSBWHS513 – Lead WHS risk management
  3. BSBWHS514 – Manage WHS compliance of contractors
  4. BSBWHS519 – Lead the development and use of WHS risk management tools
  5. BSBWHS515 – Lead initial response to and investigate WHS incidents
  6. BSBWHS516 – Contribute to developing, implementing and maintaining an organisation’s WHS management system
  7. BSBCMM411 – Make presentations
  8. BSBSUS411 – Implement and monitor environmentally sustainable work practices
  9. BSBWHS517 – Contribute to managing a WHS information system
  10. BSBWHS520 – Manage implementation of emergency procedures

Modes of Delivery

For International students: 20 hours classroom based training and 20 hours per week of self-study is required.
For Domestic students: classroom based and/or workplace training based on an agreed training plan that will include self-study.

The College will use the following assessment methods during this course which includes and may not be limited to Questions, Assignments, Projects, Case Studies, Activities, Third Party Reports/Logbooks, Portfolio, Observations, Tests and Written Assessments.

Course Suitability

This course is directed at individuals who may wish to become the key personnel responsible for Work Health and Safety monitoring and review. These graduates will have sufficient knowledge to collaboratively investigate incidents, conduct risk analysis, train staff and oversee the implementation of WHS policies, practices and procedures.
