Course Description

This qualification is suitable for people who take on work health and safety (WHS) responsibilities in addition to their main duties. They may provide technical advice and support to a team. The qualification reflects the role of skilled operators who apply a broad range of competencies in varied work contexts.

Course Structure

  1. BSBWHS307 – Apply knowledge of WHS laws in the workplace
  2. BSBWHS308 – Participate in WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control processes
  3. BSBWHS309 – Contribute effectively to WHS communication and consultation processes
  4. BSBWHS310 – Contribute to WHS issue-resolution processes
  5. BSBWHS331 – Participate in identifying and controlling hazardous chemicals
  6. PUAFER001 – Identify, prevent and report potential facility emergency situations
  7. BSBWHS416 – Contribute to workplace incident response
  8. BSBPEF301 – Organise personal work priorities
  9. BSBCMM411 – Make presentations
  10. BSBSUS411 – Implement and monitor environmentally sustainable work practices
  11. BSBSTR301 – Contribute to continuous improvement

Students are required to bring their own sturdy, fire resistant clothing for this practical session in the commercial kitchen, which includes non-slip, enclosed toe (no sandals, thongs, etc) shoes or boots, a long sleeved shirt and/or jacket, long leg pants and a cotton apron. Trainers have the right to refuse entry if you are not wearing these, under the Victorian government’s occupational health and safety and hygiene rules and regulations..

Training Pathway

After achieving this qualification, individuals could progress to

  • BSB41419 – Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety

Modes of Delivery

For International students: 20 hours classroom based training and 20 hours per week of self-study is required.
For Domestic students: classroom based and/or workplace training based on an agreed training plan that will include self-study.

Assessment Methods

The College will use the following assessment methods during this course which includes and may not be limited to Questions, Assignments, Projects, Case Studies, Activities, Third Party Reports/Logbooks, Portfolio, Observations, Tests and Written Assessments.

Course Suitability

All workers should participate in the development, implementation and review of Work Health and Safety policy and procedures. This course is aimed at individuals from any organisation who needs to participate effectively in all Work Health and Safety activities and who may be required to induct new employees into the workplace. The learners may opt to study full-time (Domestic or International) or part-time (Domestic Only).
